Pacha - Coffee and More

Pacha Imported Arts and Coffee on Burnet  Road is a wonderful Allandale stop for coffee and food. The small coffee shop includes a colorful interior decorated with South American art and a comfortable outdoor patio. Owned by Julie Fouillet (above photo), husband Laurent Fouillet, and Suzanne Throop, Julie’s sister, Pacha opened up in Allandale 5 years ago. Julie, a former school teacher who lived and taught in Bolivia, looked for a house in an Austin neighborhood for her business - a strip mall was not an option. The former Podiatrist office just up from  Bark’n Purr was ideal.

I visited Pacha for the first time at 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon and observed a steady flow of clientele. In addition to serving organic coffees, smoothies, and breakfast tacos, the neighborhood eatery offers a range of foods for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You'll find South American saltenas and empanadas  along  with changing lunch specials prepared by Laurent Fouillet, Julie's husband,  who is co-owner and chef. The dynamic menu  includes  quiches, fritatta, soups, salads, grilled panini sandwiches, pies, and a variety of entree dishes. They also serve a  breakfast special on Sunday along with other daily breakfast items.  One of their more popular beverages  is a Sambozan Acai smoothie made with Acai organic berries, a very nutritious fruit from the Brazilian Amazon. While there, I enjoyed coffee and a chocolate macaroon.

Pacha regularly holds a supper club that is a fixed menu 3-course meal. Advanced reservations for these are required. Periodically it hosts evening music events. Go by Pacha,  get a cup of their popular house coffee specialty drink, the Pacha Latte, and ask to be placed on their email list to be notified of upcoming supper clubs and music events. Pacha is an ideal Allandale destination for coffee, comfort and nourishment.
