McCallum High School Concert, November 9th

Dear Allandale Neighbors,

Please help the McCallum High School Orchestra get to Carnegie Hall in June ’09. On Sunday, November 9^th, these talented students will play a one-night-only performance The Neapolitan Music Society presents a Neapolitan Revival with the McCallum High School Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Ricky Pringle and Guest Conductor, Maestro Gioacchino Longobardi. The Neapolitan School of Music is a fascinating story that began 500 years ago in the orphanages of Naples, and ends in the royal courts of Europe. These schools produced some of the most beautiful music from masters like Scarlatti, Jomelli, Durante and Fiorenza. The concert is the culmination of a week long international master class for the McCallum Chamber Orchestra and will include a lecture by Dr. Robert Gjerdingen of Northwestern University. Gullett Carnival this Saturday!

Lamar Fest 2008 on October 24

The Tradition Continues
Lamar Middle School will hold its annual fall festival, Lamar Fest, on Friday, October 24. The festival will be at Lamar Middle School from 6 to 9 p.m. Current, previous, and future Lamar students, their families and friends, as well as neighbors and community members are all invited to join the fun! This year’s festival promises an exciting evening of food, games, live music, and so much more!

Austin Energy town hall meetings plan for electricity demands through 2020

Help Austin Energy develop its generation plan to meet Austin area electricity demands through 2020. The plan must meet the energy demands of our growing community, address City Council goals for renewable energy and carbon reduction, and provide affordable electricity rates.

Join Austin Energy representatives for a town hall meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22 in the Council Chambers at Austin City Hall, 301 W. Second Street. The audience will have the opportunity to participate and ask questions following a presentation on the proposed generation plan. For additional information on the proposed plan and a list of upcoming town hall meetings, visit www.austinsmartenergy.com. A citizen survey and blog also are available online to help collect citizen feedback.

Early voting starts today, Monday, October 20th for the November 4th election. For people in Allandale, the closest location is the Ben Hur Shriners Hall across from Sun Harvest. APD to host 8th Annual Community Symposium

The Austin Police Department will host the Eighth Annual Community Symposium “Preparing Today for a Safer Tomorrow: Public Safety Awareness” – on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008. The symposium is designed to unite neighborhoods, businesses, faith communities, law enforcement, non-profit organizations and public agencies to improve and impact the quality of life in Austin.

Voters in Precinct 243 Will Vote at Ben Hur Shrine Temple

Greetings fellow Allandale residents -

If you haven't already heard, the polling location for Precinct 243 on Election Day has changed. Normally, voters in Precinct 243 would vote at Lucy Read school. THAT HAS BEEN CHANGED! On Election Day, voters in Precinct 243 will vote at the Ben Hur Shrine Temple. Election Day is November 4th. Early voting begins on October 20th and lasts until October 31st. Ben Hur Shrine Temple will also serve as an early voting location. All registered voters may vote early at any early voting location. The regular General Membership meeting of the Allandale Neighborhood Association (ANA) was held on Thursday, August 25, 2008, at 6:30 pm at Ralph Yarborough Library, the Treasurer being in the chair (as the President was absent) and the Secretary being present*. The minutes of the last two General Membership meetings (27 September 2007 and 27 March 2008), and of the special General Membership meeting (29 November 2007) were read and approved.
