General Membership Meeting Minutes

The regular General Membership meeting of the Allandale Neighborhood Association (ANA) was held on Thursday, August 25, 2008, at 6:30 pm at Ralph Yarborough Library, the Treasurer being in the chair (as the President was absent) and the Secretary being present*. The minutes of the last two General Membership meetings (27 September 2007 and 27 March 2008), and of the special General Membership meeting (29 November 2007) were read and approved.
*Members Present:
Joe Reynolds, Treasurer; Mary Jean Matus, Secretary; Donna Beth McCormick; Paulette Kern; George Roman; Cynthia Keohane; Laura Slaughter.
Joe Reynolds gave the Treasurer’s report:
Current Balance: $20,362.63
Business: $ 4,447.24
Nonprofit Business: $ 9,387.76
Savings: $ 6,527.63
Outstanding legal fee debts are $42,866.54; payments are to be made as monies become available via proceeds from fundraising events.
George Roman moved that “The treasurer’s report be accepted”; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
Presentations:
Kelly La Hood from the Austin Police Department (Central West Area Command) introduced herself to the membership as Allandale’s (for the area south of Koenig Lane) neighborhood representative. (AJ Rodriquez represents the area north of Koenig Lane.) The following upcoming events were noted:
National Night Out on October 7.
A Fall Safety Fair will be held on October 11, 2008 (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) at 8000 Research Blvd. (Research and HWY 183). Everyone is invited to attend to learn ways to keep you, your family and our community safe. In attendence will be: Police, Police Hummer, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Austin Fire Department (AFD), AFD Fire House, Spirit Reins (horse rides), S.T.A.R. Cart (DWI awareness), 311 Operators, Code
Enforcement, and AISD K-9 Unit.
Neighborhood resident, Andrew Donohoo, gave a presentation on Solar Photovoltaic (PV) technology and Austin Energy’s Solar PV Rebate program. Andrew provided an overview of how this technology is used for heating water and providing electricity, how Austin’s Energy Power Saver ProgramTM works, and what one might expect in terms of cost of installation vs. savings via the rebate program and energy costs.
Sharon Blythe spoke to the membership about the construction activity at Covenant Presbyterian Church (3003 Northland Drive) with regard to their use of land belonging to Austin Memorial Cemetery, and expressed her disapproval of the situation.
Committee Reports given as follows:
Northcross: by Allan McMurtry
Alan met with the City of Austin on Monday to discuss the term sheet. ANA’s attorney’s have requested concrete resolutions, e.g., whether agreements would be recorded by way of deed restrictions vs. plat notes (enforced by the City).
Beautification: by Linnea Anderson
Tree-trimming is again being initiated along Great Northern Blvd. Plans are in the works for volunteer clean-up of the pond at Northwest Park. Northwest Recreation Center has plans to re-vamp their building; Linnea is entertaining ideas as to how we might become involved in outdoor site improvements that would benefit neighborhood residents. Linnea welcomes residents to call her (750-8902) for more information and/or to volunteer.

George moved that the nominations be accepted; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
Tom Linehan will be continuing his work with the ANA newsletter and website. Tom was recognized by the membership for his outstanding leadership these past 2 years as President. Laura Slaughter, who is now focusing her attention on Nursing school, was also recognized for her enormous contributions to fundraising efforts.
A very big heartfelt THANK YOU goes out to Tom and Laura for their hard work and dedication to our neighborhood!! THANK YOU!!
