The numbers back it up. Allandale has a crime problem. There were 73 burglaries that were reported in Allandale in 2009 according to the Austin Police Department's Crime Viewer. That is 31 more than were reported in 2008. In fact, it is the highest number of burglary of residence in Allandale in the last 5 years. The top crime in the neighborhood is Burglary of Vehicle, criminals stealing from cars, with 167 incidents reported. The number three crime is Burglary of Residence. If you have been following the neighborhood listserve, this is no surprise.
On January 15, someone posted a note to the listserve that their house on Pegram had been cleaned out by burglars during the day. Another posted that the same thing happened to them one week earlier nearby on Nasco. Here is a link to all of the burglary of residence incidents in Allandale that took place in 2009.
If you are wondering whether it's just Allandale, I put together the following comparison of crimes in area neighborhoods for 2008 and 2009. Keep in mind the number of incidents for Allandale are higher simply because Allandale is the largest of the 5 neighborhoods. North Shoal Creek also had a spike in burglaries in 2009.
