Corrections: Allandale Construction Update

Good morning.  Following are corrections to Wednesday afternoon’s email.  Please accept my apologies for the misunderstanding and for any inconvenience the prior email may have caused.   Following are construction updates for the next two weeks for the Allandale Storm Drain Improvements Project.
 
Completions Prior Week:

• Completed three inlets on White Horse.
• Began water line on Nasco

 
Rain Days:  Friday, February 3 and Saturday, February 4.  The schedule below is NOT taking into account additional rain days, although current weather reports suggest rain on Thursday and Friday of this week.
 

Storm Drainage Project Update - 02.08.12

Following are construction updates for the next two weeks for the Allandale Storm Drain Improvements Project.
 
Completions Prior Week:

• Begun work on inlets on White Horse.
• Storm drain inspections on the first 1000 feet of Bull Creek have been completed
• Water lines on Nasco

Rain Days:  Friday, February 3 and Saturday, February 4.  The schedule below is NOT taking into account additional rain days, although current weather reports suggest rain on Thursday and Friday of this week.

Storm Drainage Project Update - 01.23.12

Following are construction updates for the next two weeks for the Allandale Storm Drain Improvements Project.

Completions Prior Week:

• Inlet and sewer line installation on Bull Creek is complete.

Upcoming:

• Bull Creek - Sewer lines will be tested from Monday, January 23 through Wednesday, January 25. On these days, there may be some interruption to regular services.  If this is the case, a representative will notify you. On these dates, we ask that you not use your water service between 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There are no street closures or reductions associated with this work.

• White Horse - Water line work scheduled from Monday, January 23 through Wednesday, January 25 will necessitate a full closure of White Horse between Bull Creek and Nasco. Water services work scheduled from Monday, January 30 through Friday, February 3 will require a flagger operation on White Horse between Bull Creek and Nasco.

• Nasco - Sewer service work on Nasco scheduled for Thursday, January 26, and Friday, January 27 will necessitate a full closure of Nasco north of White Horse to 6307 Nasco. A storm trunk line will be installed on Nasco from Thursday, January 26 through Friday, February 3. This will necessitate a full closure of Nasco between White Horse and Cavileer.

Repaving

• Repaving of Bull Creek will begin once testing and acceptance of sewer lines has been completed. This is expected to occur in mid-February.

Council Member Spelman wants to pause the review of short-term rentals

Council Member Bill Spelman wants to put a hold on the review of short term rentals in Austin while the city auditor's office collects data on the number, location, and impact of the rentals on neighborhoods. The objective of the review, which started 18 months ago, was to determine whether new rules for short-term rentals were necessary. According to today's article in the Austin American-Statesman, not everyone agrees that halting the review is a good idea. Council member Kathy Tovo and some neighborhood representatives don't believe the delay is needed; there is plenty of information that has already been collected from city departments, the auditor's office, and a number of well-attended stakeholder meetings during the review. Council Member Laura Morrison told the Statesman, "The concern that's been raised is that people didn't buy their homes to live next door to a hotel." Lamar/Burnet Rd Corridor Study Project Open House

The City of Austin team that has been putting together a plan for changes to Burnet Rd will present their initial findings and proposals at an open house on Thursday, January 19, 10 AM to 7 PM, at Crestview United Methodist Church (1300 Morrow St, in the Fellowship Hall.)
 
The open house will also include information on proposed changes to N Lamar north of 183.
 
The study results will be used to define short-, medium- and long-term projects.  The short-term projects may be included in an upcoming bond package.  Team members have warned that not everything can be top priority, but there was strong neighborhood feedback last year to fill in sidewalk gaps along Burnet and on the first block of streets leading to Burnet.
 
The results of the study will also allow Sustainable Neighborhoods to finalize a plan for planting up to 50 more sidewalk trees along Burnet Rd this spring.

City of Austin Public Works: Allandale Storm Drain Improvements CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Good afternoon!  Following are construction updates for the next two weeks for the Allandale Storm Drain Improvements Project.
 
Completions Prior Week:
 
Installed fire hydrant between Northland and 2222 on Bull Creek
Installed fire hydrant between White Rock and 2222 on Bull Creek
Installed inlet on the corner of Bull Creek and White Rock
Installed 6 sewer services on Nasco
 
Upcoming:
 
Please note:  The original construction schedule for this week showed work beginning Monday, January 9.  Due to rain, work has been delayed at least one day.  The dates below reflect a single “rain day”.  If the rain continues into Tuesday, January 10, each date below will slip an additional day.
 
Bull Creek
Inlet Installation on Bull Creek will require full closure on Bull Creek immediately North of 2222 from Tuesday, January 10 through Friday, January 13.
Additional inlet installations will occur on Bull Creek on Monday, January 16 through Wednesday, January 18.  Flaggers will be operating on Bull Creek between White Rock and White Horse on these dates.
Sewer service work from 6001 Bull Creek to 6007 Bull Creek will require a flagger operation from Tuesday, January 10 through Thursday, January 12.
Sewer line will be tested on Bull Creek from Tuesday, January 17 through Thursday, January 19.  No street closures or reductions are associated with this work.
Note that while the sewer lines are being installed and lines tested, there may be some interruption to regular services.  If this is the case, a representative will notify you.  On those possible dates, we would ask that you not take hot showers, etc between 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  
 

Bullard Drive Construction to begin in January

The Watershed Protection Department will begin installing a long-awaited storm drain system on Bullard Drive in mid to late January. The project will help relieve local flooding in the area. Most of the work will take place on the 5800 and 5900 blocks of Bullard Drive. There is also a short segment of work on Carleen and on Rickey at the intersection with Bullard.

This project will involve a curb to curb closure of these streets roughly between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday for about seven months. There may also be closures occasionally on Fridays. The street will reopen at night and on the weekend. The exact location of the street closure within the project area will vary as the work progresses.

In addition to installing a storm drain pipe, we will also be installing four manholes and a number of curbside inlets.

The outfall for this system was installed earlier this year as part of the larger Allandale Storm Drain Improvements project. Unlike the project on Bull Creek Road, this work will be done by the Watershed Protection Department's employees.

Staff members will be at the Allandale Neighborhood Association meeting on Thursday, January 26, at 6:30 p.m. at Northwest Recreation Center to discuss this project. There is a map of the work area available for download online: http://www.austintexas.gov/department/allandale

Allandale Neighborhood- Construction Update

Completed:
All water lines on Northland and Bull Creek are complete
Two fire hydrants were put in, active water line in way.
Inlets north of White Rock on Bull Creek
 
General
Letters regarding inlet or fire hydrant installations will be hand delivered on Thursday, December 22 to those addresses where the inlets will be installed.
The crews are still installing inlets and should be finished with inlet work by the end of February. Three inlets remain on White Horse. Seven inlets remain on Nasco.
Construction crews will not work between December 23-January 3rd in observance of the holidays.

Answers to questions from Allandale Storm Drainage Project meeting

The following are answers from the City to the questions that came up in last weeks public meeting held at the Northwest Recreation Center on the Allandale Storm Drain Project.

What options are there to complete the project faster?
We are compressing the contractor’s work schedule by allowing them to work in two areas simultaneously, from Shoal Creek heading north and from Allandale north.  The project team is targeting mid-April for completion of the work.
 
How is the project affecting Austin Memorial Park Cemetery?
We are currently investigating any possible impacts the project may have on the Austin Memorial Park Cemetery.  Additional information will follow.
 
What is the schedule now?  Can you tell us what work will be done and approximate time these tasks will begin?  How long will they last?
The contractor’s 2 week look-ahead schedule is attached.  This schedule is currently under review by the City and may be modified.  Detailed descriptions of the work will be provided in the weekly email updates.  Residents are also invited to attend the weekly Tuesday 5:30 pm meetings for more detailed discussions and questions.
 
How will the accelerated option work?
We’ll work from Shoal Creek heading northward and from Allandale northward.  We will pave these two areas at the same time. This may start as early as January 3, 2012.
