The Eggmen and McCallum Fine Arts Academy Orchestra Join Forces Again In The Beatles Classically with Full Orchestra

Austin, Texas, Jan 17, 2012 - Calling on Beatles fans of all ages, you do not want to miss this chance to see Austin's best Beatles Cover Band, The Eggmen perform in conjunction with the award winning McCallum Fine Arts Academy Orchestra.  This will be the 7th magical pairing of these two music groups and the first time it will be held in the McCallum Arts Center, a new state of the art theatre.  The larger stage will allow for a Full Orchestra of students and a richer sound. This is the way Beatles music was meant to be heard.  This concert will take place on Saturday Feb 4th, 2012 at the McCallum Arts Center, 5600 Sunshine Drive, Austin.  The evening will start with dinner at 5:15pm  and the concert at 7pm.

This event is the Spring Fundraiser for the McCallum Fine Arts Academy Performance Fund, which is endeavouring to send all Orchestra Students to Louisiana State University to work with professors on their upcoming UIL programs.  Pre-order tickets for Priority Concert Seating including a Fajita Dinner catered by the Iguana Grill , Adults $37.00 and Kids $25.00, or Concert only Adults $25.00 and kids $15.00  at http://mactheatre.thundertix.com/.

Under the direction of Maestro Ricky Pringle, members of the Orchestra have embraced the music that has crossed genres and influenced music for generations.  The Eggmen continue their mission to ensure that people enjoy live performances of what many consider the greatest music of a century.  Together the two groups allow the audience to hear the music of the Beatles as it was meant to be heard, with the backing of a full orchestra.

Please join us for a bike lane presentation hosted by the Allandale Neighborhood Association.

The City of Austin will reconstruct or resurface Wynona Ave. (Lamar MS faces Wynona Ave.) White Rock Dr, and White Horse Trail after the completion of the storm drain system construction. Lamar MS & Gullett ES families & friends and Allandale residents are invited to a workshop at the ANA meeting to consider designs for safe, protected bike routes for those streets.

The goal is to re-design the streets to encourage more families to walk or bike to school, to provide a neighborhood amenity and to improve watershed health (by reducing street impervious cover that contributes to the degradation of Shoal Creek).

Rock n Roll fundraiser for Lamar Middle School

Join Lamar students, parents, and staff for the coolest fundraiser of the year.

Let's prepare the trees for the Fall and Winter by removing unwanted weeds and grass from the mulched areas. Weeding trees, although not as important as watering, is still essential. Weeds are fast growing, fast moving, and fast reproducing plants that tend to dominate space and sap moister from our trees.

McCallum Arts Center grand opening

The McCallum Fine Arts School had the official grand opening of its McCallum Arts Center Friday night. The Texas Tribune publishes a Texas Public Schools Database

The Texas Tribune has published a Texas Public Schools Database that is available to any visitor to its website, www.texastribune.org. The Database, which visitors navigate on the site, lets you analyze and compare key data on every school district and school in the state, from student completion rates to TAKS scores. It includes information on each school and school district's spending, demographics, staff, and academics. The database was put together using data from the Texas Education Agency. It is a good resource if you want to find out how AISD schools compare to one another.Click here to learn more about the database and to try it out for yourself.

RAVE - Recognizing All Valuable Employees. Lamar Middle School Math teacher Gena B. Vollmer received the RAVE Award from Austin ISD in 2010-11. She has been Lamar’s very own “Green Angel”. Working with students, Ms. Vollmer planted and maintained the entrance gardens for at least 2 school years. Last school year she partnered with Lamar PTA for the Fall & Spring clean up days. During this hot, dry summer Ms. Vollmer single-handedly has taken the time to keep the front gardens beautiful.

Urban Edible Gardens at Lamar Middle School

We are excited to announce Lamar Middle School has begun a new edible garden, outdoor classroom project. We are partnering community neighbors, parents, teachers and children for this unique opportunity.

We need help now in soil preparation and building the gardens. Students attending 6th Grade Camp in August will be the first to enjoy this program. Please join the Lamar Green Team and help make our gardens grow!
