June Edition of Allandale Neighbor Is Here

June 09 cover  You should have received the June issue of the Allandale Neighbor but if you have not, you can download it here. (Please email me though if you did not receive it and let me know your address.)

This month Laura Dooley provides a first impression of the new North Village Library. Her husband, Nathan wrote an article on plans for the remodeling of the Northwest Rec Center.

You know there is a problem with crime in the neighborhood when our very own neighborhood safety coordinator's home is burglarized. She wrote about it. Other articles include information about: the Bike Plan and Allandale, stolen turtles, Gully, tips on saving water, and more. It's in this newsletter at no cost to you because no matter what any poll that allows people to vote multiple times for their favorite neighborhood suggests, Allandale is the best neighborhood in Austin! See you at the 4th of July Parade.

The April Issue of Allandale Neighbor is out!

Cover0409 The feature article in this issue of the "Allandale Neighbor" - being delivered to Allandale homes this week - is the 1981 Memorial day flood. Those who were in the neighborhood when it happened remember it well.  "Remembering the Flood," an article written by Allan McMurtry, conveys the drama of the event, how it unfolded - including the day after, and the work that has taken place in the neighborhood as result. After reading Allan's article, follow it up by reading the firsthand accounts of the event published on this web site. We are grateful to everyone who contributed their stories and photos and news clippings for this look back at the flood. It is an important piece of the neighborhood's history and it explains much of the work that has taken place in the neighborhood over the years including the work that is underway at the Great Northern detention pond.

This issue of the Allandale Neighbor is not all about the Memorial Day flood. There has been a lot going on in the neighborhood lately including: "It's My Park Day", the tree planting at Northwest Park, and the Celebrate Allandale Picnic. If you were kicking yourself for not making to the "meet-the-candidate" forums held at one of the homes in the neighborhood, don't worry. The Allandale Neighor was there for two of them and took notes. You will find this and more in the April issue. As always, if you have not received the newsletter yet, you can read it here.

The February Issue of the Allandale Neighbor Is on its way

02.09_cover You may be greeted with the February Issue of Allandale Neighbor today whey you arrive home. Well if not today, then tomorrow, or maybe the day after. In this issue we include a number of articles about what is going on in the neighborhood and what's coming up plus an insert that we've called Allandale's Economic Stimulus Package. With it being a new administration and all, we figured it would take some time for the federal government's package to get to us here in Allandale so we've partnered with local merchants to kick start it. Use it.

Under the heading of "Know your Neighborhood," we have an article about Allandale Village. It is our neighborhood shopping center and one of the oldest suburban shopping centers in the city.
